Staying healthy is a top priority for Danville residents, and they depend on the high quality health care available to them in the area. Danville’s nearest hospital is the San Ramon Regional Medical Center, located just five minutes south of Danville in San Ramon. Less than 10 minutes north is the Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center, and the John Muir Medical Center, which is Contra Costa County’s only trauma center.

San Ramon Regional Medical Center

The San Ramon Regional Medical Center offers a full array of medical services, community programs, and online information for the benefit of the local community. The center is a full-service, 123-bed, acute care hospital, providing both inpatient and outpatient services, including 24-hour emergency services, as well as an outpatient surgery and treatment center.
Medical services include cardiac care and rehabilitation, a breast center, a diabetes management program, the Family Birthing Center of San Ramon, occupational medicine, among others.
The medical center offers many community programs, including the LPSR (Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon) Pediatrics Group of primary care physicians, a medical plaza in Gale Ranch, childbirth education classes, cancer support groups, and many others.

John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek

The John Muir Medical Center is a 572-licensed bed hospital, and is the only designated trauma center for Contra Costa County. It is the largest medical center in the county. The center’s specialties include high- and low-risk obstetrics, orthopedics, neurosciences, cardiac care, and cancer care; it is routinely ranked near the top as one of the best hospitals in the San Francisco metro region. It is a part of John Muir Health, a not-for-profit integrated system of doctors, hospitals, and other services.
John Muir Health also specializes in general surgery, robotic surgery, weight loss surgery, rehabilitation, and critical care. Besides the Walnut Creek center, there is a 313-bed hospital, and a 73-bed psychiatric hospital, both in Concord, as well as numerous primary care and outpatient services throughout the county, and urgent care centers in several cities.
Many informative classes on health issues are offered as a community service. Class topics include advance health care directives, driving for senior citizens, fitness for new moms, healthy school lunches, depression, avoiding senior citizen fraud, managing pain, CPR, diabetes, and many more. There are also many support groups for patients and family members dealing with chronic diseases.

Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center

The Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center is a not-for-profit 233-bed general medical and surgical hospital. It is part of the Diablo Service Area for the Kaiser Foundation, which covers central and east Contra Costa County, and the Tri-Valley area of Alameda County. Besides Walnut Creek, there is another medical center in Antioch, and five medical offices in Antioch, Livermore, Martinez, Pleasanton, and Walnut Creek. A sixth office is expected to open in San Ramon in Fall 2013.
There are nearly 50 departments and specialties at the Walnut Creek center. In addition, members of Kaiser have access to a full range of health resources for preventative care, support, and living with illnesses. There are numerous online resources, as well as a large number of classes and support groups. Members also have access to free wellness coaching from expert professionals.
