The town of Danville, California, is part of the inclusive San Francisco Bay Area community that stretches up the West Coast from San Jose to Napa Valley. Visitors from around the globe come to this cozy retreat for its romantic horizons, historic glow, and relaxing amenities. Because Danville is a neighbor to larger, more iconic cities, like Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose, and San Francisco, it is a convenient vacation spot. Visitors have the option of flying into three major international airports: San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Oakland International Airport (OAK), and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC). All three sky harbors are 30-60 minutes away from Danville by freeway.
Up-to-date information about airlines, parking and public transportation options, and other airport services are available by visiting each airport’s official website. Keep in mind that travel time from each airport to Danville will undoubtedly vary depending on road conditions.
Oakland International Airport (OAK)
Located 10 miles south of downtown Oakland off I-880, approximately 30 miles from downtown Danville.
Hosting more than 10 airlines, such as Southwest, Alaska, Hawaiian, US Airways, and Jet Blue, Oakland International Airport (OAK) is a popular choice for travelers wishing to avoid the bustle of San Francisco’s international airport. Another benefit of flying in and out of Oakland is the airport’s history of dependable on-time arrivals.
Commuters from surrounding communities have access to the airport via AirBART shuttle buses from the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. Construction on an Oakland Airport Connector that plans to link BART directly to the airport will be completed sometime in 2014.
San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Located 15 miles south of downtown San Francisco, off Highway 101, exactly 42 miles from downtown Danville.
The busiest airport in the Bay Area, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is served by more than 37 regional, national, and international airlines. It boasts three domestic terminals and one terminal exclusively for international travel. It is the hub for United Airlines and is the principal base of operations for Virgin America. Of the three airports in the area, SFO is the only one that can currently be reached directly by BART from San Francisco.
Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC)
Located in San Jose near the intersection of Highway 101, I-880, and Highway 87, approximately 51 miles from downtown Danville.
Conveniently located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) is the anchor for more than nine airlines, including American Airlines, United Express, and All Nippon Airways (ANA). It may, in fact, be the smallest of the three Bay Area airports, but it is easily reachable by either I-880 or Highway 101. Principal destinations out of San Jose International are Los Angeles, California, Phoenix, Arizona, and Seattle, Washington.
