The Town of Danville

Danville, California, nestled in the San Ramon Valley is 30 miles from San Francisco but a world away. Flanked by the Las Trampas Ridge to the west and the Diablo Range in the east, the town stands in full view of the majestic Mount Diablo. Danville has a small town charm which is welcoming and dear to its residents.

The area of northern California where Danville is located enjoys sunshine and mild weather practically year round, except for the winter months when the rainy season in Northern California starts. The temperate weather is ideal for outdoor activities and recreation in the nearby parks and public open spaces. People enjoy hiking, biking, and horseback riding on the numerous trails in the surrounding areas.

Danville is well-known for its expensive real estate and coveted country clubs. From chic downtown condominiums to large country estates, homes are often more than $1 million.

Historically, the area where Danville is located was inhabited by Native Americans who migrated from the creeks in the winter to the upper reaches of Mount Diablo in the winter. Over time, the area came under the control of Mission San Jose and was part of a land grant, Rancho San Ramon. The town, as we now know it, was founded by Daniel Inman and his brother Andrew who invested their gold rush earnings in 1854 and purchased 10,000 acres of land.

Danville is near several large business and cultural hubs such as San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland and Silicon Valley. Served by the 680 freeway, the town is mostly residential with residents commuting to San Francisco and neighboring towns. Since Danville residents incorporated their town in 1982, it has grown over the last three decades into a vibrant community with highly-ranked public schools, a busy commercial downtown, and cultural events. 

Residents of Danville number just over 42,000. The town is family-friendly and the city provides many community programs and events. Danville is an excellent place to raise a family or to start a home. 

The schools in town are among the highest ranked in the nation for academic achievements. The town of Danville belongs to the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. There are 35 schools in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and more than 30,000 students attend the public schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. There are also several private schools in Danville that offer a high standard of education.

There are many things to do in and around Danville. From shopping, dining, annual events, and sporting activities such as golf, hiking, and biking, there’s a range of activities for everyone in the family. Danville’s proximity to the beautiful coastal area and seashore gives make it easy to go and spend a day on the beach.

Danville is a very desirable place to live. Its beautiful surroundings, parks and recreational areas and fine restaurants make it a destination for visitors and home for its residents.
